The ARS Karni Chapter was established in Mission Viejo on April 16, 1993, as the South Orange County chapter. As the southern Orange County area developed and more families moved there, several members from the Sevan Chapter and new members requested the establishment of the new chapter. The founding members were the following: Sylva Akmekjian, Araxy Aykanian, Peggy Bugescu, Maryam Shabazian-Dayeh, Carmen Goglanian, Jeanette Injejikian, Anahid Kochinian, Seta Mergeanian, Azo Mirzayan, Anahid Najarian, Gilda Nargizian, Maro Peterseil, Virginia Rhodes, and Jane Zerounian.
The Friday School was first established in January 1997, using the classroom facilities at the Harvard Community Center in Irvine. Later on, the school was switched to a Saturday schedule, and moved to the Shepherd of the Hills Church in Laguna Niguel. In 1998, the chapter provided new beds and bedding for 230 residents at the Auxiliary No. 12 School for orphans and disabled children in Yerevan, Armenia. In the year 2000 and 2003, Christmas gifts were delivered to the children. The chapter hosted Annual Regional Conventions in 2002 and 2007.
The chapter held opening ceremonies for the new office at 23232 Peralta Dr., Ste. 110, Laguna Hills, California on March 2, 2013. The chapter holds various fundraisers, such as breakfasts, Christmas and Easter parties, Holiday Boutiques, art shows, Father’s Day, as well as dinner dances serving the needs of the local community in southern Orange County, and Armenia and Artsakh.
