The “Amaras” Chapter is named after the Amaras monastery in the Mardouni region of south-western Artsakh. The monastery served as the location where the Armenian alphabet was taught for the first time in the 5th Century by St. Mesrob Mashdots, the inventor of the Armenian alphabet and a spiritual leader who propelled the 5th century to be the “Golden Age” of the Armenian nation.
